Some Web 2.0 programs that I think are extremely useful are edmodo, since it helps connect the parents with the classroom in order for them so see whats going on and if their child has any homework/ assignments coming up. Prezi is also another great Web 2.0 program since it can assist in making power points a lot more interesting and can also be worked on in a group.Especially since I have so much personal experience with google docs I absolutely love this program and think its great for younger students. Once Web 2.0 program I dislike is skype since  it can be dangerous to younger students who don't know how to work it and it can be extremely confusing especially with poor wifi. One Web 2.0 program I would love to one day use in my own classroom is Funbrain. This is because most websites only have math games which are great but they get boring. I plan to give my students as much free time every day to explore what they enjoy to learn. This program will give them easy access to g...

In general I didn't have a teacher with a twitter until my junior year in HS and she only used it so we could tweet her pics for our forensics projects. I've always wondered why my teachers didn't use social media as much but now that I have been using it for my professional account I can see how its a little tricky. Tweeting so far hasn't been difficult, but, its been tricky trying to find accounts speaking of what you want to have of your feed and then keeping up with 2 tweets a week has a been a lot since I don't even tweet once every 4 months on my personal twitter.  Looking forward to my future career I can see me using twitter to tweet whats going on in the classroom including assignments, upcoming events, and photos from inside the classroom. Years ago the digital divide was most likely a lot larger then in current society. This is due to the fact that most students have had a chance to explore technology before school wether it be at home, a library, or th...

Some ELA technology standards that have already helped me with my knowledge to teach are, " Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in diverse formats and media (e.g., visually, quantitatively, as well as in words) in order to address a question or solve a problem." This one is because it helped me broaden how to present my information in new ways that will keep my students entertained but discovering new ways to learn. Another standard that already helps me is, " Use technology, including the Internet , to produce, publish, and update individual or shared writing products in response to ongoing feedback, including new arguments or information." This helped me learn how to perform accurate research and then implement it into my own work. One standard that I still need to work on is, " Make strategic use of digital media (e.g., textual, graphical, audio, visual, and interactive elements) in presentations to enhance understanding of findi...

Through out my years school so far MS Word has played a fairly large role in my education. Though, for a while in HS my school strictly used google docs so we stopped our use of MS Word, even though the two are pretty similar. Most of my teachers enjoyed Word more then Docs because they had used Word their whole career and had to change it to adjust to the new rules in my school district.  Coming to college there was a shift for me since I hadn't really used Word in HS and now most of my teachers prefer Word and make us turn papers in in a certain Word format. My HS was very strict when it came to copyright and citing where we got our info from. We had an academic integrity rule about copying but also citations and using turnitin.com for our papers. Coming to FSU the two weeks of my English class was primarily focused on teaching us how to properly cite and covered the rules of FSU regarding copyright. As a teacher I think that these rules are a hassle but they're necessary f...

What influences teachers/students to use technology in the classroom varies per person, year, location, etc. For most teachers they're guided by the ITSE standards for the use of technology in the class room and attempting to meet the common core standards for each year. There are also times where teachers are forced to use technology in certain concepts or have students where technology has to be used to assist in teaching. Students are influenced to use technology in the classroom by teachers giving them assignments such as a powerpoint, google docs, edmodo, etc. Also, today in technology some students (such as myself) prefer to use technology for things, such as notes, rather then paper and pen.  As someone hopefully going into education the ISTE standards are of major interest to me. One standard that is meaningful to me is, " Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act...

My prior experience with technology is a fairly long list due to the fact that my HS required several tech classes, including ones that specifically dealt with windows, word, power point, etc. Though I haven't utilized some of my skills for a year or two, I would say that I am understand the common knowledge factors of technology yet I do struggle with the vocabulary. Also, my HS was very tech based so most classes required assignments online and we would have "common assessments" 3 times a year which typically were a power point presentation or a group essay over google docs. My main focus was google docs since my school relied on that for our school email, presentations, group work, sharing docs with our teachers, etc. I also used technology frequently at home and on many occasions had to teach family members how to utilize either a computer, smart phone, digital camera, etc. In this class I hope to learn a broad list of tools to use when I become a teacher. One speci...
